Dasha Ziborova

Dasha Ziborova

Dasha Ziborova came to the USA from Russia, where she studied at the Academy of Design and at the Academy of Fine Arts, both in St. Petersburg.

She likes cats, computers, Vietnamese food, babies (while they are sleeping), and riding her bicycle around New York City.

Dasha is a book artist, graphic novelist and muralist. She also alters actual vintage books, the very act creating wry commentary on their content.

Ms. Ziborova is known for a series of large-scale murals she painted for the New York City and Chicago locations of The Peninsula Hotel, and for plaster reliefs at the Waldorf Astoria. Her 30 murals grace Atlantic Terminal, in Brooklyn.

Dasha founded Real Time In Ink, a newsletter delivering narrative graphic stories about growing up in The Soviet Union.

Dasha illustrated Gingerbread House’s In English, of Course and The Numbers Dance, A Counting Comedy. Soon after the artist received her USA residency, we learned that the former book was shortlisted for the Randolph Caldecott Medal, given by ALSC of The American Library Association for “the most distinguished American picture book for children.” It came as no surprise, then, when ALSC requested Dasha’s credential materials because her second book with Gingerbread House had also been shortlisted!
